Gravy for biscuits

¼ cup of either margarine, butter, shortening or my personal favorite - grease left after frying chicken (so yummy)
¼ cup self-rising flour
    or 1/4 cup all-purpose + 1/4 teaspoon baking powder + 1/8 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 to 2 cups water
¼ cup milk (the milk makes it sweet so adjust according to taste)
1/8 t pepper
Salt to taste

Melt the margarine in a pan.  Remove from heat and add the flour, stirring until all smooth.  Return to stove and cook one minute. Add the water all at once and quickly stir with a wire whisk until smooth.  Add milk and pepper.  Cook, uncovered, until thicken, about 10-15 minutes, stirring often.  As it thickens you may want to add more water.  Salt to taste.  If it's not good - meaning it's bland or taste floury, keep adding salt and/or pepper until it taste good :)
